What Happens When Your House Burns

I am going to start a new series of blogs about fires and what a consumer/owner must endure. One may think that the procedure is pretty cut and dry but it is not. Yes the usual process happens, you call the insurance company. But there is much more to deal with after the fire.
In my circumstance, I am a landlord and I had tenants. First off, everyone got out of the fire virtually unscathed. One tenant did jump off the roof from the second floor, which was the egress to escape. He sustained a broken foot but now is okay. The second floor was completely destroyed by the fire. The first floor was destroyed by water damage. Once the fire was over the fire marshall deemed the building unsafe. The first floor tenants had rental insurance. They were able to escape with little damage and were covered. The second floor tenants virtually lost everything. So my first advice for landlords, or tenants; get rental insurance.
Rental insurance is fairly inexpensive. It covers everything in your unit. It helps pay for moving expenses. It will cover theft, etc. GET RENTAL INSURANCE!!!
Ok...my next blog will be about,...the Day After the Fire!

Here is the link about my fire.
